Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi died of a cardiac arrest in Milan on Friday night.
The 72-year-old had been chargesheeted for acting as a conduit for bribes in the purchase of Howitzer guns from Swedish company Bofors AE.
Quattrocchi's close relationship with former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and his wife Sonia Gandhi became a source of controversy. The Bofors scandal was instrumental in the defeat of the Congress Party in the 1989 elections.
